Usually a stripped drive gear or a broken spring making the door too heavy for the motor. We check the door’s balance first — replacing an opener on an unbalanced door just kills the new unit.
For attached garages, belt drive: it’s dramatically quieter. For detached garages or heavy wood doors, chain drive is fine and costs less. We’ll recommend based on your door weight and bedroom locations.
